He has served as Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Community Arts (CCA), a local organization that provides arts programming for members of the community, but with an emphasis on targeting "at-risk" youth. CCA is also raising the funds and organizing the Rehabilitation of the Franklin Street School, a project to save an important, historical building in the City of Cape May. The Franklin Street School is a vital link to the community's segregated history, having served as the African-American school before desegregation. This building, currently in very distressed condition, is being totally renovated and restored to memorialize this history and also to offer a home to CCA's arts programming for the community. Jim also has served on the City of Cape May's Planning Board for 6 years among many other activities in town.
